Troy Rice handles the full range of IP matters, including prosecution, enforcement, and IP support for commercial transactions.
Troy has particularly deep experience in management of IP licensing and franchising, including agreements involving patents, trade secrets, know-how, trademarks, and copyright in software and other subject matter. He also has extensive experience in IP due diligence and the drafting of IP provisions in agreements relating to joint ventures, joint technology development, M&A and asset transfers, product warranties, entertainment and media licensing and distribution and publishing.
Troy also has deep experience in trademark and domain name prosecution and portfolio management, registration of copyrights, recordal of IP rights with customs, and enforcement of IP rights, including anti-counterfeiting and border protection.
Troy serves on the Intellectual Trademark Association’s (INTA) Trademark Office Practices Committee.
Troy was previously Of Counsel in Beijing and Hong Kong with the IP Group of Bird & Bird. Before that, he was Senior Counsel with DTS (Asia) Limited, a subsidiary of DTS, Inc., a global audio technology company based in Los Angeles. While at DTS, Troy was responsible for the preparation and negotiation of technology licenses to companies throughout Asia.
Troy began his legal career with the Hong Kong and San Francisco offices of Baker & McKenzie, where he focused mainly on China IP matters and IP licensing.
Troy also lived and worked in Taiwan prior to attending law school in San Francisco.
A California native, Troy obtained his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Troy received his B.A. in Chinese Studies, graduating magna cum laude from the California State University in Sacramento.
Troy is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
